Web Search Engine Optimization: Marketing to the Search Engines

When I build a web page I do seven things for web search engine optimization. Before we get to that I must say search engine optimization marketing is a huge business in and of itself on the internet. I feel it is important to have proper web optimization on my pages so that I can rank high on as many keyword phrases as possible. However I do not feel it is necessary to play the search engine marketing game and constantly tweak my pages in an effort to rank higher. Time is better spent creating new content and new pages as well as marketing my website to potential visitors for web traffic purposes. Search engine traffic is important because it is free. But the majority of affiliate marketing
internet businesses cannot be successful on search engine traffic alone. Marketing to search engines(web search engine optimization) is a small piece of the overall affiliate marketing pie. With that said, it's worth spending just a little bit extra time on each web page as you're building them to properly optimize for the search engines. Here are the seven methods I use for web optimization:

Web search engine optimization
Web page name - Name each web page after the keyword or phrase that you are targeting. For example if you are building a page about German Shepherd training, then you would name the page german-shepherd-training.html.

Meta title - The meta title for a given web page is for search engine purposes only. The meta title does not show up on your page, but it does show up in search results. Be sure to use the targeted keyword or phrase in your meta title one time along with at least one of the other meta keywords. Keep the meta title under 65 characters, under 80 characters for sure.

Meta description - The meta description for a given web page is for search engine purposes only. The meta description does not show up on your page, but it often shows up in search results. Be sure to use the targeted keyword or phrase in your meta description once or twice and also try to fit in as many of the other meta keywords as possible. Keep the description under 200 characters.

Meta keywords - The meta keywords for a given web page are for search engine purposes only. The meta keywords do not show up on your page and they do not show up in the search results. I like to list 5 or 6 meta keywords. The first meta keyword is the targeted keyword or phrase. The remaining meta keywords are tightly related to the targeted keyword or phrase.

Web page title - I typically make this the same as my meta title which includes the keyword or phrase that I am targeting along with at least one of the other meta keywords.

Web page content - Whatever keyword or phrase you're targeting for a given web page, make sure to use that keyword or phrase throughout your content. Don't over do it, but it's OK to get a bit wordy if you need to fit in a couple more instances of the targeted keyword or phrase. Go back to your list of other meta keywords and try to fit those in at least once each into your content as well. If you have a lot of content on one page and need to sprinkle your targeted keyword or phrase in a couple more times, see if you can break up your paragraphs with a couple of bold titles that include the targeted keyword or phrase.

Image tags - You can give your images a title otherwise known as an alt tag. I don't do this on all of the images on my sites. For a given web page I will give my web header image(the one at the top) a title and if I use an image for my copyright at the bottom I will title it with the name of the page. I also title any stock photos that I add to my websites. Image search has become a larger part of Google and it doesn't hurt to get more words in your code that are similar to the name of a given page.

Search engines look at the seven factors above when they spider your web pages. So take time to do some web search engine optimization so that you ensure the search engines know exactly what each of your web pages is about. Name your web page after the keyword or phrase you are targeting. Use your web page name in each of your meta tags, your web page title, throughout your web page content, and in an image tag if you have any photos or banners on your site. The meta tags are simply search engine food that let Google, Yahoo, Live, Ask, etc know what your page is about. Then your web page title and content should confirm what your web page is about.
