Pay Per Click Affiliate Marketing - Promote with PPC Ads

Pay per click affiliate marketing is a method of promoting affiliate programs by way of purchased advertising on Google, Yahoo, and/or Bing. In some cases PPC ads are sent directly to the merchant or product site being advertised by the affiliate, however in terms of sales conversion and affiliate profit, a properly optimized and monetized affiliate landing page is often a better destination for pay per click traffic.

Some caution is needed before venturing into PPC affiliate marketing. There are many variables that go into building a successful pay per click advertising
campaign, especially when you're dealing with affiliate programs. The main factor is your cost versus the commission you will receive from the merchant(s) you are promoting(along with any revenue you may receive from content-based ads strategically placed on your landing page).

The foundation for traffic to your website is organic search. You want to generate as much free traffic to your website as possible via the search engines and perhaps other methods such as social networking, posting in hubs, and article submission. Unless you're well-experienced with PPC advertising, you should maximize the amount of free traffic you can generate to your website or blog before diving into the world of pay per click marketing.

Don't plan on bidding on a merchant's brand or store name. Trademark bidding is typically off-limits although you will find some merchants who allow their affiliates to target product names or the store name. You must read the affiliate agreement for each merchant you partner with to understand their pay per click advertising guidelines before building any campaigns. You don't want to lose your relationship with a merchant over a restricted pay per click term or phrase.

Pay Per Click Affiliate Marketing - When PPC Ads Make Sense
If PPC marketing is new to you, then I highly recommend proving the conversion rate on the web page(s) you might send paid traffic to before beginning any campaigns. Calculate how much revenue your web page(s) take in per visitor. You may have a mixed monetization structure on your website with a combination of affiliate programs and content-based ads(such as Google Adsense). If in a given month you received 2000 unique visitors to your website or blog and you made $300 from that traffic, then you know that you are averaging $0.15 per visitor to your website. It would make sense then to start your pay per click bidding at no more than $0.15 per click. Then going forward with proper tracking and analysis, you can gage whether to increase your pay per click marketing bids or to lower the amount you are paying for PPC advertising.
