Learn How to Name a Domain and How to Get a Domain Name
Before you get a domain name for your website it's important to understand how to name a domain. I'd like to give you a few domain name tips and then I'll give you a couple options for registering the name you decide to give to your website.
How to name a domain
First of all I recommend using .com over .net, .org, or anything else. I also recommend including your website topic in the domain name. First of all I recommend using .com over .net, .org, or anything else. I also recommend including your website topic in the domain name. Don't try to get all fancy and come up with some catchy name that doesn't have anything to do with your website or that isn't even in the dictionary. Remember you are a small business, quite
possibly a one person show, who needs to scratch and claw for all the free search engine traffic you can get. By including your website topic in your domain name you are giving your home page a huge boost in the search rankings for that particular keyword or keyword phrase. Be sure to use dashes in the domain name if it consists of three or more words. Dashes will make the domain name easier to read. In essence what you want to do is make sure you name a domain to clearly indicate what your website is all about. If you can get your website topic into the domain name along with one attractive word to catch people's attention, then you will name a domain the best way possible.
How to get a domain name
Once you understand how to name a domain and have settled on a domain name for your website, you need to register that domain. I'm going to give you 2 options for how to get a domain name registered. Because of my typical affiliate blueprint and long term plans for a website I usually choose option 1. With that said if you are new to the affiliate marketing scene you should also consider option 2, at least for your first website. Let's take a look at each option:
Option 1 - Head over to GoDaddy and get a domain name. Once there just look near the center of the page and you'll find a box that says "Start your domain search here!" Enter your domain name and GoDaddy will tell you whether the domain is available.
Option 2 - The complete internet business package from Site Build It! includes domain name registration. How to name a domain and get a domain registered are both fully explained in day 5 of the SBI Action Guide which is free in both text and video format. I recommend checking it out especially if you want a detailed explanation of how to name a domain - it's worth reading even if you decide to register your domain and host your site with GoDaddy.
How to name a domain quick tip: As I mentioned further above, I recommend registering a .com name and using dashes if there are 3 or more words in the domain name. You should also consider registering the .net equivalent of your .com domain name and the dashed or non-dashed .com equivalent of your domain name. For example if you decided to name your domain best-caribbean-vacations.com you could also attempt to register bestcaribbeanvacations.com, best-caribbean-vacations.net, and bestcaribbeanvacations.net. That way it's unlikely anyone would steal your idea and challenge you in the search engine rankings for "best caribbean vacations". You can get a domain name and park it at either GoDaddy or SBI. I typically use GoDaddy to park all of my extra domains.
