How to Generate Website Traffic - Generating Traffic to Your Website

There are many methods you can utilize to generate website traffic and it's important to start with the website traffic generation techniques that will have the largest impact and the lowest cost. The foundation of your website traffic should be organic search - free traffic from Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, etc. That's why it's so important to do the proper keyword research for a given web page and then to build the page with your targeted keywords weaved in throughout the content and the meta-tags.

Additional methods of generating website traffic include blogging and RSS feeds,
Facebook, Twitter, posting in forums related to your topic, and submitting articles to article directories and hubs. Below we'll take a closer look at each of these website traffic generation techniques.

Generating Traffic to Your Website - Going Beyond Search Engine Traffic
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, organic traffic from the major search engines is the foundation for your website or blog in terms of getting unique visitors to reach your web pages. There are plenty of website traffic generation methods that will increase the number of unique visitors you receive to your website or blog. Here are some of the most popular and effective techniques for how to generate traffic to your website beyond free search engine traffic:

Blogging and RSS feeds - Every website should have a blog, even if the blog is basic and only provides site updates(such as new articles, products, or deals). Another possibility is to create a website in a blog format. Either way it's also important for every website or blog to have an RSS feed or even several feeds. RSS feeds are a way to blast out your website or blog content across the internet. I suggest only submitting sniplets of your web pages to RSS readers and aggregators(page titles, short page descriptions, and the URLs for your pages are sufficient). Submitting entire articles creates a high probability that other websites(i.e. RSS aggregators) will "steal" your content and post it on their own pages - which can lead to them getting the article listed in the search engines instead of you. Social Networking - In my opinion every webmaster should create and keep updated a Facebook page and a Twitter page. Facebook and Twitter are the two most popular social networking platforms in the world and so it makes sense to tap into the specific audiences made available at Facebook and Twitter. I also believe it's very much worth participating in one or two forums or discussion boards that are based on a topic closely related to the information you provide on your website or blog. Become an expert in your field or market on Facebook, Twitter, and one or two forums.

Article Posting and Submission - Another method to generate website traffic is to submit or post articles to directories such as EzineArticles and to hubs such as Squidoo and HubPages. Don't create brand new content and submit or post it to those sites, add brand new content to own website or blog first. Instead what you can do is take articles from your website and re-write them 3 different ways(each targeting different keyword phrases) and then submit or post to EzineArticles, Squidoo, and HubPages. There are additional article directories and hubs to consider as well. Don't spend too much time submitting articles to other sites because remember the foundation for generating traffic to your website is organic visitors from the major search engines - put more focus and time into creating new content for your own website or blog and less focus and time re-writing existing content for article directories and hubs.
