Generate and Submit XML Sitemap - Submitting an XML Sitemap

Taking the time to generate and submit an XML sitemap to the major search engines is important because you are essentially telling the search engines: "here are all of the pages my website conatins". An XML sitemap makes it easy for Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask to find all of the pages on your website - without the sitemap you must rely on the search engines finding and spidering your pages on their own.

This article will explain how to generate an XML sitemap and how to submit an XML sitemap to the four most popular search engines: Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask.
Generate XML Sitemap - Simple Process of Generating an XML Sitemap
As long as your website conatins less than 500 pages, you can generate an XML sitemap for free at XML-Sitemaps.com. All you really need to do is enter your website URL and click "Start". You don't have to worry about Frequency or Page Priority. I typically use the Server's Response for the last modification. Once your XML sitemap generation is complete, simply copy and paste the code into Notepad and save the file with a .xml extension(for example sitemap.xml). The last step is to upload your XML sitemap to the root directory of your domain(for example zzzzzz.com/sitemap.xml).

Submit XML Sitemap - Steps for Submitting an XML Sitemap
After you have generated an XML sitemap all you have to do is submit it to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask. The big 3 search engines(Google, Yahoo, and Bing) have "Webmaster Tools" where you can easily submit an XML sitemap. Here's how to create a "Webmaster Tools" account with the big 3 search engines plus how to ping Ask with your XML sitemap file:
