Creating an RSS Feed - Create and Submit RSS Feeds

Creating an RSS feed and a blog for your website is actually quite easy. In this article I'm going to present two options for having a blog and for how to create and submit RSS feeds. I will explain the methods that I use and will also give you an "automated" method of creating a blog and submitting an RSS feed.

RSS feeds are a way to blast out your site content across the internet. I actually recommend only submitting page titles, short page descriptions, and the URLs for your pages. If you submit entire articles there is a high probability that other websites(i.e. RSS aggregators) will "steal"
your content and post it on their websites - which can lead to them getting the page listed in the search engines instead of you. So let's cover some tips and techniques for creating an RSS feed, adding a blog to your site, and how to submit RSS feeds.

Creating a Blog - Choose Between a Basic Blog and a Full-Blown Blog
My personal preference is to run my site blog and associated RSS feed manually. I usually have a basic "site updates" blog page - see the one on this site. I also usually update my RSS feed manually and alert RSS readers and aggregators across the internet manually. Here is the HTML code I use to provide updates on my blog pages:

Put the Date Here

Put the Title of Your Page Here

Put the Description of Your Page Here

Permalink -- click for full blog (Make This a Link to the Page

Simply repeat the above code for every entry you wish to make on your basic blog page.

Another method of creating a blog is to build an entire separate site as your blog. So your "blog site" is a companion to your main website (or you could choose to build your main site in a blog format). GoDaddy Wordpress Hosting allows you to do just that. With GoDaddy Wordpress Hosting your blogging is automated, the creation of your RSS feed is automated, and the submission of your RSS feed is automated.

How to Create an RSS Feed - Do It Yourself or Automate with Your Blog
As mentioned above I typically update my RSS feed manually and submit to RSS readers and aggregators manually. Here is the code I use to update my RSS feeds:

Put the Title of Your Blog Here

Put the Desription of Your Blog Here

Put the Title of Your Page Here

Put the Description of Your Page Here

Simply repeat the code from
to
for every entry you wish to make on your RSS feed.

If you don't want to manually create and submit your RSS feed, then check out GoDaddy Wordpress Hosting where your blog navigation is automated, creating an RSS feed is automated, and submitting an RSS feed is automated.

Submit RSS Feed - Blast Your Feed Across the Internet
I like to use Feedburner from Google in conjunction with my blog page and RSS feed. Feedburner takes your feed and puts it in a nice readable format along with providing the most popular social bookmarks plus automated submission to the major RSS feed readers and aggregators.

I also like to "ping" additional RSS feed readers and aggragators using ipings.com or pingomatic.com - each service is free to use and no sign-up is required.
